Opas is an Agricultural Cooperative, the biggest in Italy, operating in pigs-breeding and meat processing. Offices and operation unit, where meat is produced, transformed, and distributed internationally, are in Carpi, near Bologna, in the region of Emilia Romagna.Opas Company was renewed in 2014 by a small group of Italian pig breeders, and today relies on 75 associated pig farmers, who breed Italian heavy pigs from Parma and San Daniele PDO consortium, Protected Designation of Origin. Opas has a production capacity of 25.000 units per week and high-quality standards for process and products. High standards are granted through yearly and monthly audits and certifications such as HCCP, BRC, IFS, Mc Donald's, Tesco, etc. Besides the voluntary plant certifications and the export certifications, the farm to fork approach and cooperation with associated pig farmers are the premises enabling the development of an even sustainable farming method. Sustainability is implemented in 3 different food supply chains, granting important values.Animal Welfare food supply chain, that guarantees animals do not suffer within the whole process.Antibiotic free food supply chain, from the 49th day of live animals are not treated with antibiotics.Guaranteed traceability food chain, that keep traces of the whole production process from-farm-to-fork.In 2016 Opas Company decided to launch the EAT PINK brand on the market to add more value to the plain, unprocessed pork meat. At that time, pork meat was still not seen as high-quality meat, seen as fatty and not so healthy. For this reason, consumers were not willing to buy and consume it as a first-choice option like beef and chicken. The driving force behind Eat Pink project was therefore putting down the roots of a completely new way of mentally categorizing the pork meat.First step was to let pork meat retail packs outstand from shelves in supermarkets, through pink shocking-colored boxes. PINK means an in between meat category, where white chicken and red beef are the opposite poles. To opposite poles correspond opposite nutritional elements. Myoglobin nutritional element, equals to iron content in blood, is higher in red meats and poor in white meats and it is responsible for fiber-coloring.The pink color, proper of the pork meat, represents the right balanced equilibrium of the myoglobin content in pork. Additionally, pink meat is rich in minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, and iron which are important elements for immune, nervous, and muscular systems' equilibrium. The successfully result of the rethinking-meat movement was the premise for a further upgrade: the set-up of a new Company with the internalization of the cooking process.Recently in 2021, the new company EAT PINK Srl was founded in the same plant of Opas, with the purpose of specializing in industrial pork meat production and extending the farm-to-fork pork offer up to the ready meals, easy to cook, and easy to regenerate. Eat Pink, with its retail food proposals, targets people wishing to eat healthy and tasty food, easy to buy and easy prepare at home. All our efforts are devoted to promoting a healthy and sustainable way to prepare and consume proteins made of our 100% Italian pork meat. Not only for retail, solutions and packaging for food service channels are also available.Additionally, Eat Pink is the preparing of recipes made of shortlisted ingredients, all natural, all allergens free, preservatives free, dyes free, lactose free. Beside a balanced healthy diet, the taste is unique, and the meat is tender and juicy.It is impossible to resist our lean pink meat. Taste it at home with family and friends, or even at office.
